I pay 500 for mine :3
Tetris you don;t happen to live withing the radius mentioned?
On a serious note (sorry srs bsns campaign): Club together with someone. Get a house mate. Have a look around in local news papers etc. for people wanting a house mate. If they look legit give them a call and pay a visit. Living with someone else would work out so much cheaper than living on your own. Plus you don't get as lonely.

well, depends on the place (obviously lol). I dunno about Portland though.
Where I use to live (The Bay Area), you'd have trouble finding a studio apartment for under $100, but the apartment I'm looking at now (Indianapolis) is $419 for a one bedroom. My girlfriend's step-brother pays around $300 for a house (Connersville, Indiana).

IDK about US housing market, but considering how it's been going lately, and the fact that Australian housing is considered overpriced relative to the US, those prices sound quite a bit expensive.
Over here, there's plenty of student share houses, but you do have to live with others, typically a number of Asians in a small apartment (so many Asian students here). Meh, if you share, you might get lucky and find some Jap girls that you love so much.
