My old 10.5.8 install was pretty much done for when I upgraded to a RADEON HD 5770, so when Netkas released his new 5xxx Snow Leopard drivers I was eager to try it out. As expected the driver wouldn't work in Leopard so I needed Snow Leopard. I have a Snow Leopard DVD but I couldn't get this thing to work even with AMD boot DVDs... so I decided to try iAtkos S3 despite everyone saying it won't work with AMD.
In the first install I forget to choose a bootloader, the second install instantly crapped my PC out because it was trying to boot the vanilla kernel on an AMD processor... go figure...
Third install with custom kernel still tried to boot the vanilla kernel... I was at a loss so I tried something unusual, the iAtkos DVD was not only able to boot the Setup but also all HDDs so I gave it a go and let the DVD boot my SL partition... BOOM SL was booting. And not only that, instead of doing a fresh install it simply updated 10.5.8 to 10.6.3 o_o so everything was still there.
Installed the 5xxx RADEON drivers and after some wireshifting on my monitor and 3 reboots I got the most beautiful Snow Leopard 1920x1080 picture with full hardware acceleration
Old problems fixed:
USB 2.0 works
No more random kernel panics
New Problems that appeared:
Have to boot with the iAtkos DVD in drive since I don't know the correct MACH command
my IDE drives aren't detected (not that bad)
out of my 2 soundcards only 1 works and I need the second for Skype >.<
But yeah I'm happy for now^^
