interesting - my dad had almost the exact same problem with one of his drives - it turns out the the mechanism hadnt closed quite right so the drive thought it was jammed, nothing would open the drawer except the pinhole. what i had to do was forcibly eject the drive via the pinhole then close the drive fast enough by hand to make it engage. it worked fine from then on.

i used to have a windows 95 comp that would only open the cd drive if you turned the comp on and off
and the computer I'm using now used to have a screwed up cd drive
wouldn't play some computer games, wouldn't reconize them
the light jsut kept flashing, so wee got a new one
