Supposedly someone other from team GAYphoon has found a kernel exploit; only time will tell if this leads to a hen/cfw

By the way, yes, i know I'm being disrespectful to some talented psp developers; but as soon as they released that mock video to just troll people, my respect for them went straight out the window.

Lets be honest though, wee want a more hi-res screen now if phones are surpassing our "portable games consoles".

Sony will probably just fudge up PSP2 as well though...

+1 Tetris, +1

@Sensei:
Imho they don't need to surpass phones hardware wise completely, that will only lead to even higher prices. But dedicated gaming handhelds have one huge advantage:

The controls!

Many people around me have iPod Touches and iPhones yet very few game on these devices, myself included, because pure touchscreen controls are totally awkward.
The only thing I have found myself able to play is Tetris to a certain extend and SRPGs
Even when I had my G1 for a week with a slider keybord, the buttons were too damn small xD

I bet many more people feel like this, so it doesn't matter if wee have phones that surpass gaming devices until wee can't control them comfortably.
Everything can really be considered an experiment.  So it's just a matter of wording it for PR purposes.
If experiment succeed, you get money.  If fail, you improve, until you run out of money.

Meh, i don't know; sony really kicked the handheld markets butt in terms of power when they released the psp; the same thing might happen with the psp2

I don't understand what you mean by "the same thing might happen with the psp go." It's already failed :/

Anyway, lets think about the PSP for a minute.

While it was the most powerful at the time.. looking at sales:

Nintendo DS - Worldwide: 128.89 million
Sony PSP - Worldwide: 66.7 million

...as of March 31st, 2010

Sony need to provide something that people really want next time around and not slack at it. They must have been blind, for a start, to not see how with Nintendo DS already racking in the sales and the iPhones app store rocketing the iPlatform as a "gaming" one, that a Touchscreen would've helped the PSP significantly. Granted the first-gen PSP wasn't the right time, but the PSP Go was a chance, and would have been a much more worthy experiment than a stuuuupid Digital-only platform. The only thing they got right was the internal memory.

They need to bring innovation back and jump ahead of Nintendo if they want to beat it's 3DS console that's around the corner, let alone the innumerable superphones that will emulate all the games you could possibly want - let alone their own touch-sensitive and motion-sensitive gaming platforms which they have already.

But I'm not really sure whether comparison of sales is really the right way to consider things.

For example, designer clothes usually have significantly less sales than clothes you find at a $5 shop.  This is due to different aims.
I think the NDS was meant to be a simple games console, with some innovation in the touchscreen area.  The PSP seems more aimed at a multimedia device than the NDS.
Although both are games consoles, and you may say they're marketed similarly, they may also have a fair bit of distinction.  For example, for most games, they'll be available on one of the platforms but not both, so consumers can't exactly choose freely between the two, like they could with clothes or CPUs, for example.

I think digital-only is the right way of the future.  iWhatever has been so for ages, and large amounts of flash memory is quickly getting cheap, and more people are connected to the net.
What they failed to address was that many consumers on the older platform actually want their games to work on the newer one without having to re-buy / re-download them.  I think it would've been better if they used the Go more as a transitional device, to get people aboard their digital platform.
Lack of competition is perhaps the other issue.  People are used to buying games at a games store.  Even though Apple have a nice monopoly on things, it will take some effort for Sony to put themselves in the same position.  The Go could've also been used as a transitional thing for this - eg sell games on memory cards to stores, and then sell them cheaper on PSN to entice people to buy online.
