Endless Paradigm

So lately I have been trying to find my own grove in the mecha world of anime/games

I am looking for a space game that uses high computer graphics and that works like R-Type or Galaga games what do you guys recommend?

360 has an HD version of Galaga.
If you wait for SC2 to release, there will be plenty of UMS with a top down shooter style, guaranteed.

In the meantime, I'd suggest searching for "top down shooters" on google. I came across this thread with some good recommendations in the 2nd post, despite them not being what the TC (of that thread) wanted. They are what you are looking for, though, I think.
