(okay, perhaps it might be difficult to find insurance for this case, but that's the idea anyway)
So I take it that you believe the premium paid in price and lack of features is worth the risk trade off for you?
Then you have your decision :)
Yep, that basically sums it up; keep in mind that the "lack of" features are things that i already do not consider to be of worth to me.

Only buying it will solve the mystery - the most you can do is research to try to align your expectations with what you really get.
Unfortunately a risk you take. Personally I try to make the best of what I have as I am somewhat risk averse in this regard so I rarely buy new stuff.
Don't get me wrong, i do the same thing as well; my pentium 4 computer (2.0 ghz processor + 128 MB ram + 1.5 gigs of DDR ram; oh yeeeaaa!) built 10 years back is still serving me as strongly as it always has. It's just that I'm looking for something -different- and i feel the ipad is such a thing; the whole magical and revolutionary stuff is lame, but you have to give them points for introducing what they've got already.
I tried to listen to steve jobbs talk up his iPad and discuss it's specs and what was good with it, but I couldn't hear him around the massive pocky of arrogance that he was choking on.
For something so expensive, it's already being outclassed, and it's barely even gotten out of the starting gate. It's specs are bleah, it runs one of the most restrictive operating systems ever, and apple likes to smear the pocky of faggotry all over it. (read: citing it as 'Revolutionary'.)
I would never buy such a thing, I'll stick to my laptop and grab a stylus pad if I feel the need to touch stuff.

That wouldn't be 10 years ago as the original P4A chip was released in 2002. Dunno if there was a 2GHz P4A, or whether that was the P4B (which would be later).
But Pentium 4s are fine - more powerful than my Intel Atom N270, and I think it's fast enough for most tasks.
And do you really have 128MB + 1.5GB of RAM?
~then again an iPad might be useful in some ways...since i liek my OS to be pretty♥..but since it won't be jailbroken(hackd) anytime soon...i think I'll just wait till the price drops cause i really do take fancy in having big ecchi wallpaper and pretty icons in the palms of my hand.
as for information taking, wee'll just see if the virtual keyboard can type fast, I've used my sis' macbook to take notes for philosophy so I think a netbook/lappy is way better for info gathering/note taking than iPad...actually i don't see myself typing in the iPad. =_=
Also i never watch anime/movies on the go, i have to watch it carefully on my tiny 20" inch LCD, i don't want to get into an anime when I'm outside. xDD

It's not just the processor, you'll be using slow ram, slow HDD, slow everything else. In the end, it'll be very likely much slower than your Atom netbook.
Also, don't know why, but all the library's P4s are retardedly slow (like REALLY retardedly slow), even though they should theoretically be much much faster, judging by the specs (I'm comparing to my old 1.6GHz Sempron and my brother's Atom, both of which feel like i7s vs their P4s).

10yrs old... Isn't that like before DDR? You'll probably be using old SDRAM. And you need 4 slots for that setup, no motherboard back then gave 4 slots.

I'm very sorry, i made a booboo; kinda tired here.
I meant to say 128MB of video ram + 1.5 DDR RAM. About the pentium 4 processor, i guess i was exaggerating the 10 years part; but it is very old by technologies standards, which was the point i was trying to get across.
Forgive me, I'll look into my examples more thoroughly next time. (Give me more time to edit my posts! D=)
EDIT:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4
The first pentium 4 codenamed williamette; was released in 2000, but since I'm not an donkey, i verified my CPU to be the northwood chipset with the 130 nanometer build; so i guess this computer is 8 years old, which is still a pretty old machine anyway...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM#History
Also, according to this information (I'm not sure with that history reading) DDR was introduced in 2000 as well; but I'm assuming i have "release 2" based ram, which is also 8 years old...
This is besides the point, this computer is still pretty old

People are supposed to be arrogant when they are selling stuff, if you doubt your own product and not support it; then...i can't describe how dumb that is.

It's been jailbroken already lunar; check out the "spirit" jailbreak :)

Apple jokes are hilarious, but this one i don't get.
You sound like you really, really want an iPad.
You sounded like you really, really wanted something else too
You probably won't regret buying it, like I said before, so long as you have EVERYTHING ELSE YOU COULD POSSIBLY NEED then get an iPad as an extra - why not if you have the spare cash?
No, I wouldn't, I'd probably get parts for a computer or a SIM-free Nexus One, heh

Wat.

Believe me, i'd be able to live with my pencils, papers, and textbooks; but there are reasons to why i buy more monitors or better computers; it makes life easier and i think the ipad would be a worthy addition is all.
I don't need to upgrade anything in my setup, rather, i need to bring some new stuff in.
You just sound like you really REALLY hate apple; i just get whatever i see that is useful and promising.
I love tech, not microsoft or apple.
