If you needed to get from A to B (on foot) and there were two possible routes, one of them being along major roads and the other along minor roads, assuming both are equal length etc, which would you pick?
Minor roads. Usually less traffic (when needing to cross the road), also less traffic lights to stop and wait at.
Minor roads. It means I can get away with listening to music and generally relaxing while I walk.
What everyone else has said.
I choose the one with higher speed limit.

I choose minor roads, less trafic and less noise v__v
Since I'm on foot, then I would choose the back roads (what you call minor roads)
If I was driving it would depend on the traffic situation. Most of the time major roads are congested, so back roads also would be a time saver...Sometimes, I am able to drive a longer route on back roads & get home sooner as if I was on major roads with higher speed limits & a shorter distance...
Whichever one has shade (most likely the minor roads).
