A few appear quite close to me, I usually just don't feel like going at all really.

To me....

35% of cosplays out there are "ugly as fuck", 60% of the remaining are "pretty bad", 4% of the remaining are "alright", 0.95% of the remaining are "pretty good". Only the rest can be considered "excellent". And a good face isn't all that it takes to be "excellent", sorry. You need a (really) good face, AND it has to (very) resemble the character you're trying to cosplay, AND you need a good costume. So overall a very good portrayal of the original anime character.

Anything that's not "good" or "great" probably looks "weird". Do the maths yourself.

I think it's mostly for the "fandom" rather than to look good. People have to be realistic at some point...

Though I'll probably never attend such an event, me being me.
