I only got to a 1500 rating, even though I played around a 1800. He'd probably have owned me :)

On the other hand, I never particularly studied all that much (only some basic opening theory), and only got to like 1300 or something, and that was like 5yrs ago (stopped playing now), so you should easily own me.

Haven't played competitively since I was 15 (8 years ago), so I've lost a good bit of my skill, but wee should play some time :)

Lol, maybe.

But the fact that you still keep up with it enough to watch grandmasters play means you'll still be in much better condition than me.

Only at higher levels.  At lower levels, it's like "ah fck, lost queen, screw it".
