"The first president of the United States of America borrowed two books from the New York Society Library in 1789 but failed to return them. Adjusted for inflation, he has since racked up $300,000 (£195,000) in fines for being some 220 years late."
"The New York Society Library says it will not pursue the fine. It would simply like the books back."
Everyone gets Library late fees.

Ehehe, it's like that random dude who kept $0.50 in a bank account for a few hundred years, accruing interest.
(no, don't know anyone, though I do recall Futurama)
1789, could those books even still exist?
They probably could still be around, maybe in a Museum? lol, that makes my fine of $150 seem small and insignificant

depends, they used a lot of different material back then and a lot of books are archived from way past 1700's so yea it could.
me and my mates took out books from the school library and managed to finish school without handing them back.......they made a nice bomb fire

I'd do that except that I don't think wee're allowed to start open fires without permission here.
As far as legalities are concerned, I believe they do have the ability to actually ask for the books back, but perhaps they left you off the hook on that one XD

Not neccessary, since he's already dead. Lots of such things get voided when you die.
I'll have to try doing a poo poo load of stuff right before I die if possible.
