Even if they know that those interacting with them are the "bad majority", it's quite difficult to really ignore the fact that you are constantly dealing with these, and after a while, I guess at some point, you'll snap and decide to just simply leave.
And getting your code 'borrowed' can really hurt some people.  Some of these things are intellectually challenging and take hundreds of hours to make - someone taking that away can really get one worked up.

On the other hand, I've seen idiots get all protective over a 2 line script.  Go figure :P

Just to quote you on that, since i take transit 5 days a week, I'd have to say that here; transit drivers are never really treated with respect at times. Sure, some can be jackasses, but usually a bus driver at some point in the day will have to deal with some random person fingering them, yelling at them, arguing to get on for free, etc. This isn't a rare occurrence, in fact; it's more of a uniform part of the day that i notice and that's where i got my comparison.

Aye, it may not be the best; but it's still the best comparison i can make with personal experience of "living with it when it sucks."

I never thought other hackers liked attention , but i guess some want to be accepted by many , so some might quit over those who criticize them or their work D:

And this is exactly what drives me nuts, can't you believe that one of the reasons I'm taking a bachelors of science in computer engineering is because all the hackers/devs do this? (meaning, i feel like wee need people like myself (brag brag) who don't have an emotional ego to start hacking and coding some nice brew)
Oh okay, interesting place you live.  Here, I'd say most people are nice, and I haven't seen anyone really be rude to a driver or similar...  I have seen some weirdos at various counters and stuff, but still, an overwhelming majority of people are nice.

I'd assume so, the place i live in isn't considered to be the nicest place in all of the province of B.C.
