And if there is another source of energy few peoples knowing about it. And electricity is not the one that's bond to the economy , fuel is.

Really, that is the best way to fix the problem. It's safe now a days.
until it goes boom
A boom every now and then or no air? It can be done correctly, it's not 100%. but what is?
People refuse change. Nuclear will be the only choice left in the future.
They know this also, but change cost money and people like their money. They can milk the oil for now and later rape us on nuclear power. It's a win win for them, us not so much.
Oh how much do I wish that wee could loosen ourselves up from Capitalism, throw the entire concept of money over and just work for free to improve life for entire mankind.... one can dream....
I wish NZ would just pull it's head out of it's collective, anti-nuclear-policy-loving donkey, and accept nuclear technologies. It'll take steps towards being better bros with America, and our ludicrous power problems will decrease.
Also, earth hour was pretty pointless where I was, nobody gave two fifths of fudge all about it.

The power company loses billions of dollars in unsupplied/unpayed for power
no they don't. they simply lower the machine's capacity, if there's any excess power, they simply store it somewhere and continue to lower the capacity after the earth hour.
people are smarter than you, you know.
They say in future wee'll be using unicorn energy for everything.

Layoffs and pay-cuts

saving the environment at the cost of the economy?
1. If a power company is going to loose 1 billion just from 1hr of people not using power, that power company wouldn't exist, since it would've went bankrupt long long time ago. Like what would they do if there's a failure in their power plants (that would cause a downtime of way longer than 1hr)?
Put it this way, the total revenue of a power company for a whole f
ucking year probably isn't that much more than a billion.
2. Even if a power company does loose a significant amount of money because of that 1hr (which I seriously doubt), they would still be able to pay their workers. Otherwise all the executives of the company needs to get fired because of the lack of risk management skills.
