Yeah broken timing belt is bad. My dad had an old Ford Escort RS many moons ago. The timing belt went on that. He was quoted more than the car was worth for a repair. Hopefully it only slipped and didnt snap completely. My dad had that happen to another Escort this one a turbo diesel. The belt slipped causing the oil pump to stop working which destroyed the turbo and the valves in the cylender head. It would have cost him a good £500 to be fixed had the car not been under warranty.
Best of luck to you. It'd be a shame to see you have to get rid of a car as nice as yours.

2004 wrx by the way. Yeah I wasn't realy going 90 in 2nd.. Fastest 2nd will do is about 65. Saves me a gear shift in a 0/60 race.
Buddy got it at the shop said timing belt slipped and he quoted me 2 months ago $890 for belt, water pump 3 idle pulleys and a tensioner. Should have done it then since I am 50,000 miles past subarus recommended change. Poor car has 147,830 miles on it and it's only an 04.
Sucks too that my wifes car has the check engine light on since wednesday and I can't ride my Harley cause it's tires are bald and crackly :(. Just no good for driving now :(
