Ok so I remembered that you can animate pngs

Anyways I found a nice app that lets you make them easily it's called APNG EDIT
you can get it here

If you look at my avatar you can see that it doesn't have hard edges ^^

Unfortunetely it seems that anyone not using the bellow "minimal" requirements won't be able to view/use these wonderful images...

so the question is... what's taking everyone else so fudgeing long to implement this into their browser?!
this is a wonderful feature, as I can't use JavaScript in my icon...

well atleast they're pngs so if you can't see the animation it still looks good.

I think it certainly should replace animated GIFs, but I don't quite like this idea of using a slideshow of images, as the filesize can quickly get horrendously large.  I guess one thing that GIF has is that you're restricted to 256 colours, so the size is somewhat more capped than PNG.

I think the main reason why it's not being implemented a lot is because it isn't really a standard.  For one, I believe the group behind PNG development rejected both APNG and MNG.

It would be nice if video compression techniques could be used for these animated things, though I don't think any support alpha channels...
