always the hardest one. i haven't seen a game that is too hard for me these days.
people nagged about how hard demon's souls was.
shrug, i basically surf through it.
and other than the benefit of the challenges, trophies and unlocking the higher difficulty usually requires the highest one possible
I used to always choose the easiest difficulty, but nowadays, I just leave it on the default normal.
There is only one game i break on very hard , but the rest i always look for easy mode.

I suggest you try to play doom on nightmare mode ,its impossible.
The game i play on verry hard is the Streets of Rage 2 3 ...
After playing Ninja Gaiden Black and God of War 1 and 2, I tend to choose the hardest difficulty when ever I start a action adventure game.

I'm what one would call hardcore, though I don't play games much nowadays I still prefer games targeted at hardcore/old skool gamers.

I play games that 'hardcore' gamers would play, but I don't play them to be a badass or any bullchocolate like that, I play because I enjoy it.

But then again I play them for fun and a challenge anyway, not because I'm in some cult.

To finish...?
I got up to level 4 I think, and didn't bother going further.
You can find speedruns of it on Nightmare though - they're crazy.
Actually in a few shumps I played, the harder difficulties are sometimes too hard for me to handle. That's when I usually stick to normal.
Zing you did a lot , i couldnt pass the first level on The Nightmare Doom, i got a quick temper.
When it's FPS i usually put Hard, Very Hard.

When it's RPG i put Easy since I just listen to the story.

When it's Crash Bandicoot/Devil May Cry type games i play nightmare+
I don't usually play PC games, just console games. However, I always choose the absolute hardest setting I can. Because of a few reasons, I plow through games way to quickly & if the hard setting takes me a little while longer I feel like I got my moneys worth... 9 times out of 10 if you beat the game on the hardest setting it unlocks other gameplay modes.
