Something to do with Anime. Not entirely sure what. A few people have made threads about this. Methinks it's time for a permenant sticky.

it is the equivalent japanese term for existence (to 'be')

english has 'is'
german has 'sein'
japanese has 'desu'

taken from Rozen Maiden, the doll Suiseiseki (below) says 'desu' at the end of everything she says, without meaning.



This turned into a long-lasting and still surviving meme, with resulting phrases such as 'needs moar desu' (it always does, by the way).

Things can often be 'desufied', with the characteristic change being the eye colours changing (right eye red, left eye green)
