Great news to all PS3 phat owners, homebrew coder zerojay has recently released a new version of ZeroGame, an easy-to-use multi-console emulator for the PlayStation 3 under Yellow Dog Linux.

Developer's note:
The project is a confluence of a number of different programs working behind the scenes on top of an optimized install of yellow dog linux 6.2. The great aspect of this project is that the only effort required by you is to install yellow dog linux then install The Zerogame Project; that is it. No hunting down various emulators for various systems then tweaking and configuring each. No configuring bluetooth for the sixaxis or dualshock 3. No need to learn a new operating system. Just follow zerojays txt guide. After the install you don't even need to touch a keyboard every thing can be controlled from the 6A/DS3. Note: the program is in beta at 0.5 so it still has kinks and is a work in progress.

What is zerogame?
Over the last year or so, I've been tweaking and changing my installation of Yellow Dog Linux on my PS3 so that it would be more emulation-friendly. My goal was to get my install as close as I could to the friendliness of the Xbox emulators, with a game list and a few button presses and the game of your choice is up on the screen. It's been a long journey, but a fruitful one.

zerogame is a bash shell script that will take a freshly installed copy of Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 on your PS3 and with a few minutes and occasional input from you will give you one good emulation box that you can boot up whenever you feel like playing some classics.

What do I need?

    * Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 freshly installed on your PS3
    * A working internet connection
    * An HDTV that supports 1080p or 720p (480p/i and 576p/i support in the future)
    * A wired USB keyboard
    * One or more Sony Sixaxis/Dualshock3 controllers

For more info about the release, head over to the source link below. zerojay also promises to release a new version of the emulator soon to sort out the issues from this release, stay tuned.

ps3 can haz homebrew?
aspheric Wrote:ps3 can haz homebrew?

This requires one of the original PS3 consoles that have Other OS support.
It is run through Linux   ;)
and here i thought it would be coded with geohot's ps3 exploit :(
i can't make wireless working on ubuntu 8.04, and i can't install ubuntu 9.x due to keyboard input not available during setup...

ubuntu is quite slow running on PS3..

Even geohots exploit must be run through Linux to install.
There is much more work to be done before wee have homebrew and emulators launching from the PS3 xmb    Sadist

This is actually run through Yellow Dog Linux.
From what I hear it is a lillte more stable than ubuntu.
This seems interesting!!

I use to use PS3Filer thing that supported "Nintendo (NES) emulation & opens PNG, JPEG, and GIF image formats. NES ROMs in the AVCHD directory."  That would launch from the PS3 XMB, was nice but had NO SOUND support!  Was only working below a certain firmware which I have updated past due to some games making me...So it is nice to see again wee can emulate.

Would installing linux on a PS3 erase a harddrive from purchased games & such ?

Yes, but you can either:
a) back it up to an external HDD (FASTER)   Yay
b) format, install linux, then redownload everything...  (MUCH SLOWER)  Erk
LOL if someone can make UT3 load rom's, then I can port it to the ps3.. & in UT3 if you can code it ... you can port it ;)
