A high end case like that would never be the "most popular".  That would always be the mid end stuff.

Let me rephrase then. In the US, among those with this type of case within their budget, this is one of the, if not THE most popular case among overclocking enthusiasts. Without a doubt, I have seen more quad core systems and wolfendale dual core systems in Antec 300, 900, and 1200 cases than any other. And the Nine Hundred is seen far more than the other two, as the twelve hundred usually runs around $160. I got mine on sale for $100, which is normally what the 900 goes for, so it was an easy decision since I was going to get the 900 like many others.

Perhaps it is just different in the US.

Hellgiver Wrote:Also, what is your computer sitting at when you are actually surfing the net and listening to music and things? Mine stays around 50-55 then. It is 39 idling.

Something seems wrong then.... with a fan like that, it should be MUCH lower.  Even with my stock cooler (the old AMD variant, which is tiny), I don't hit 55 by just listening to music, can only get that high if I'm doing something seriously CPU taxing, like encoding (perma 100% CPU).

I have no idea what the problem is. I've asked for help with it before, but never got much assistance. It got up to 84 a while back when I was having to RMA my processor. I remounted the processor and fan, and it stays at 50-55 a lot of the time. It even gets up to 70 during games. Perhaps something is wrong with the fan? :/ Ugh, what a bother if I have to RMA THAT too.

Heh, you got 1200 for $100... that would cost like $200+ here.  Even the 900 costs like $150 or something last time I checked.  I don't like the 900's look too much either way (like the 1200's look a bit better though).

Don't know about what's popular here, as I'm not really an enthusiast so I'm not part of any enthusiast circles.  Most of the people I know in real life are generally the type who buy pre-built Dell machines from K-Mart or something like that.

Don't really know, maybe you're overclocking a bit too much?

I did not mean to imply that you were or weren't or that I was (laughs at the notion), but rather, when I was looking at different people's rigs, especially on OC-heavy sites, that was usually the preferred case. Since its price wasn't that much higher than my original price range was, I figured it was a good idea to go with it instead of any other case. Not because I think myself an "enthusiast". ;)

Hmmm... only running at 3.4ghz. The i7 should be able to handle that easily though... Ill see what readings I get with the stock fan (never used it lol). I'll also test with no OC at all.

Edit: Sorry for highjacking your thread, Proper. /me returns ownership of thread back to TC
I actually really like the look of rhte 900, it was the case scheduled into my next build...now i need a new one so i don't look like im copying :(

Awesome Rig mate, bet that's gonna play anything you throw at it :D
lol its alright but no more hijacking.

ya, assassinator, the reader was a bit odd with screw positioning and doesn't fit well in the adaptor that Antec supplied, so its a bit of a bodge to fit it in.

RAID0, not a bad idea, but that would mean id have to reformat everything wouldnt it? what kind of speed increase are wee talking here?

Assassinator Wrote:How did you even managed to put the CPU on if the pins were bent?  It's not supposed to go in... unless i7 is really that different from what I've worked with (core2 and AMD)...

And how was installing the heatsink and fan?  I remember on my brother's old Intel machine the push pins were so retarded and hard to get down wee spent like 2 hrs on it, Zinga mentioned a similar experience too when he bought his computer.

Well, at least your computer didn't blow up on you.  Mine did, literally, in the 1st few hrs of use.

the CPU itself on an i7 has no pins, it is completely flat, with gold pads on it. The socket on the motherboard is the male part of the socket, with the pins upright, with gaps in between, so i slide the keyring in between the gaps and bent them up. you could say the socket is in reverse to all other PCs.

the heatsink and fan were a BITCH. they're not particularly responsive (you don't really know if its pushed in or not lol) and when one pushed in, another popped out >_>
eventually it all got in, and i forgot to lock the processor in place xD it went through windows install and programs and i hadnt realised the heatsink couldve fell off onto my graphics card at any moment lol. also cleaned off the intel waxy poo poo with methylated spirits and reapplied the céramique.

i would die if my computer blew up lol

Err.... that's just the Intel stock fan...

yeah i plan to upgrade it later with a Scythe, Zalman or CoolerMaster cooler.

------------

i havent OC'ed it yet, im letting the thermal compound set properly first.

but i ran PCMark05 earlier got just over 11000, ill do it again in a sec for printscreen.

it went down >_>

ill try from cold start later

* PSPkiller wants...

But yeah... The fan... Intel's push-pin design is a retarded piece of shite. Whoever allowed it to go into production needs to lose their job.

A build like that is just begging to be overclocked. Personally I wouldn't have the patience to let the thermal goo set first, especially if, like you, I was planning on replacing the HSF soon.

Also nice bodge job with fixing the CPU socket. Remids me of a friend's laptop. The plastic clips that hold the battery in have snapped off. So he wedged a little bit of paper between the battery and the wall of the compartment that holds it in nicely.

ive shoved paper in a memory stick to get the contacts to touch while in my PSP before xD

i live for bodging

Bow down to the duct tape... Or when that's not availible any other kind of tape including PVC insulating tape. Saved my donkey in a gig last saturday. Bassist trod on his lead snapping it and leaving pieces of connector stuck inside the amp. So i throw him another... which he kills as well. This is the 3rd one complete with insulating tape holding it in:
