engadget Wrote:While the figurative jury is still out as to whether video games harm our youth by inciting them to commit violence, loiter unnecessarily, and utter profanities, a real flesh-and-blood jury may soon be deciding if one faulty Xbox was to blame for the December 2004 death of an Illinois baby. The family of young Wade Kline is suing Microsoft, retail giant Wal-Mart, and an unnamed power supply manufacturer in state court for damages "in excess of $50,000," claiming that their console -- the suit cites a 360, though it's more likely that the it was a first-gen unit sporting one of those recalled power cord -- overheated and caused the attached wall outlet to spark what turned out to be a fatal fire. This isn't the first time wee've seen Xboxes and fire go to bed together, but it may be the first attempt to hold someone accountable for the damage done, so it'll be interesting to see how the culpability gets doled out here.

Ah poo poo, my baby's dead... I know! I'll go shopping! Now... Where will I get $50,000 from? Hmmmm...
ok so i logon and i see this the first thing on my mind: Jack Thompson, I'm surprised he wasn't involved, though i got to admit theres a limit to stupidity i don't think he's stupid enough to carry his crusade on with this issue as a cause/reason, this is a problem with hillbillies who run thier electricity off crappy generators in the mountains, (i may be wrong I'm not sure if hillbillies have electricity or even exist in that part of the country) another thing, this baby died in 2004, i don't think 360 was out 'till like late 05 round november 20 to be exact, i know the article points that out, however if the family filing the suit didnt notice/fix the error that it wasn't a 360 then its most likely a scam
LoL.
It's fudgeing illinois dude, next to chocolatehole chicago, hickville usa..
That's all I'm saying.

I wonder if they're
sure it's their kid?
Hmm...the power cord being recalled (probably, of course) makes it impossible to sue.
And I know, I have a way of stating the obvious. :mdr:
But apparently,
video games really are bad for your health.
LIES!!!
...
Anyways, laptop batteries have gone up in flames, now an Xbox. What next?
