I think i could average 5 hours on power saver mode and not using the touch screen. But I am not complaining because I don't stay on the computer long unless I am gaming and I plug it in when I do that.
The thing probably uses less power. It's probably using an ARM CPU as opposed to an x86 for your tablet, and has less stuff (eg USB ports, optical drive, keyboard/trackpad etc).
it uses an Apple A4 processor i think it's called.
the data plan is also not mandatory, you can pay for it when you need it.

what's funny is that all the concepts were all so much better than the real thing
Teh real apple i-Pad o 3o
i don't have an use for an ipad since it's not compatible with my wii =O
To give them some credit, they may have some things which put it above other tablets. Ignoring price, since all Apple products are ripoffs anyway, imagine if all the stuff you need to do on the go can be done by the iPhone already, just the screen is a little too small for your liking.
The iPad seems lighter and thinner than most tablet PCs as it has less stuff.
Tablet PCs seem to be marketed as a highly portable PC, but I think many people aren't seeing this favourably. The iPad is being marketed as something rather different, so there'll be a lot of consumers who will see it this way.
If you want something light, thin and highly portable and has a big screen, don't need the additional features of tablet PCs (though I think a memory card reader would seriously make the iPad a lot better for many people) and don't care about money, this thing could suit you.
Take a look back and think about the iPod. MP3 players certainly weren't a new concept, however Apple did stuff with it that no-one else at the time did.
With the exception of the app store, pretty much all Apple products are technically inferior to similarly priced competitors, so I'm not going to really think this is much of a point.
If this were released instead Mac might take over the candy business (*^*)
