Why only 500GB?

i7 is out of budget?

GTX 260? Imo 4890 would have been better... but that is subjective. What's your display?

Pretty easy to upgrade later when needed, if he finds himself needing more.

feinicks Wrote:i7 is out of budget?

Because i7 is overkill for 95% of people?  Honestly, how much percent of the i7's power does the average "gamer" ever use?  You're going to get GPU bottlenecked anyway.

But if he does a lot of rendering (judging from the name)... then maybe he does need the i7's power...

Screw the 4890, get the 5770 or something instead.  DX11.

True, but it makes more sense to have enough from the start.

Well... technically, even quad-core is mostly overkill for most people, but its useful. i7 becomes future friendly as quad is no upscalable now...

And yes.... rendering would benefit from i7.

4890 is direct competition to the GTX 260. DX11 is useless for at least another couple of years... I wonder how many games will come out with full DX11 support... but more importantly...

Imo it's best only to get as much as you actually need, and not overstep.  Because prices drop over time and HDD capacities rise over time, so if you only need X now, it's better to buy X now and Y in the future (for cheaper) than everything now.

In that case then yes, 4890 probably better... But his rendering apps might need Cuda?  Don't know, never personally done rendering before.
