Quote:H2O: Dangerous Chemical!
A student at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair, April 26. He was attempting to show how conditioned wee have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment. In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide."

And for plenty of good reasons, since:

   1. it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
   2. it is a major component in acid rain
   3. it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
   4. accidental inhalation can kill you
   5. it contributes to erosion
   6. it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
   7. it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical.

    * Forty-three (43) said yes,
    * six (6) were undecided,
    * and only one (1) knew that the chemical was water.

The title of his prize winning project was, "How Gullible Are Wee?"

He feels the conclusion is obvious.

i found this to be funny because of the number of people who voted yes to something that was needed in everyday life. but i guess he did it in a way that was making it seem harmful.

discuss.
I heard about that a loooooong time ago. Was on some TV show, not a random science fair thing though. Just shows how stupid people can be.
well in the article the kid did it as part of a experiment. maybe he 'borrowed' the idea... i know i get some of my ideas off other people sometimes (but not very often)
lol, people are fail.
old sauce, but hilarious nonetheless
LHO!!! = Lach Hard Op = lol
THIS KID SPEAKS TRUTH!
THE GOVERNMENT HAS PUT DIHIDROGEN MONOXIDE IN OUR WATER SUPPLIES!
IT IS IN EVERYTHING WEE EAT AND DRINK!

YOU KNOW THE TRUTH! SPREAD THE WORD! WOOP WOOP WOOP WOOP WOOP!

* Silvertie goes off on a paranoid rampage
I accidentally a WHOLE bottle of water, is this bad?
Actually, if I think about it, if it was shoved at me quite quickly and I wasn't really thinking, I'd probably not really consider what "dihydrogen monoxide" is and go Yes too >_>
(though I'd probably be thinking, "eh, who cares")

Still funny though.
At my college, there were some students that were doing the same thing for a class, except that is was in the form of a petition. No one knew what it was, but I said I'm for, not against and just smirked a little bit.
