Quote:Christmas story: Boise boy licks pole, gets stuck
At least nobody put an eye out as firefighters use water to free boy

BOISE, Idaho - It's become an annual winter tale: A young boy gets his tongue stuck to a metal pole, perhaps as the result of a dare.

This year, the scene straight out of the movie "A Christmas Story" unfolded Tuesday morning in Boise with a boy of about 10. Boise firefighters used a glass of warm water to free the unidentified boy from the metal fence pole.

Fire Capt. Bill Tinsley says the boy's tongue was bleeding a little, but he was OK and allowed to continue walking to school. Firefighters estimate the boy was 10 years old.

Rescue workers responded after a woman driving by saw the boy and called 911.

Last year, the unlucky boy was a 10-year-old from Hammond, Ind., especially apt, since the 1983 movie is set in a fictional city based on Hammond.

Apparently, experimenting with frozen flag poles isn't that unusual, especially this time of year.

A similar drama unfolded in Spokane, Wa., on Monday when a 13-year-old girl stuck her tongue on a flag pole outside a school. The temperature was a frigid 10 degrees and a friend called 911 when the discomfort became too much.

Firefighters poured water on the pole to help remove the tongue.

I've once tried it in our refrigerator's freezer cabin, then my tongue stick for a while, then I've removed it immediately to avoid stuck in our freezer, lol
If you wander around the thread before reading it, you'd have just read..

Then I read the thread to find it wasn't so exciting LOL

ahaha, children.
Wee all know what happens. Hell, I live in an area of NZ which will never see any temps close to zero, let alone snow-temperatures, and even I know what could happen.
Frozen pole licking - Not Even Once.
I think I did this with my refrigerator once too.
Dammit, I can't lick poles anymore?

Nope. :(
lol I've done this before. I managed to get it unstuck in like 5 minutes okay, but my friend wasn't so lucky. The side of his lips and tongue was bleeding like crazy. It was his fault though, he decided to free himself by one swift pull.

That's canada fer ya, its around -15 celsius right now

Done it with ice/popsicles I think.
But with ice, you just apply pressure, get lots of saliva and breathe hot air - helps melt the thing.
