Can also use Firebug or a proxy like Fiddler.
Okay, it's pretty boring. The server pretty much ignores the "cost" value you send it. It was intended for stuff where the price fluctuates a bit. If the sent "cost" value is lower than what's stored on the server, you get a warning - that's all it's intended for.
