Tried windows media server before but DTS and dolby5.1 were lost so was only stereo and no subtitles,.

Today i found freeware PS3 media server,. :) works like a charm!!
provided you have a fast cpu,. for 1080i 1080p movies,..

simply enable media center in PS3>>settings>>network settings>>media center>>enable then install PS3 media center on your pc,. and you be able to browse any hard-drive from the pc on the ps3,.. and play any video.

info and download here:

Yes I've used this before.
Very handy.   I can dl a (free public domain) movie, and then watch it on my big screen, without the need to convert or transfer    Madwin
WOW, this is great.  I wanted to enable the media server for a while now, & you provide a download link for doing such! Madwin

Thanks a million :D
been meaning to set this up... need a good router for it though... lets see..
this could come in handy since I have no more space left on my PS3
and WMP is kinda annoying

Transcoding?  Why is it re-encoding the video (but looking at the bitrate, it's probably some really fast format)?  That's going to bring the CPU requirements way up.

yes PS3 media server creates a folder called "#transcoding" to fit the PS3 playable format.
Like fenicks said,. you do needs a fast router to play the 720 and 1080 movies! my playback is't 100% :(
Sending over wireless?  HD will probably struggle, unless you have really good signal strength.  But a 100Mbps LAN should work fine.
hm, my ps3 sits ontop of my PC, this seems a little pointless in my case, might as well try it anyway, i will try it when the new scrubs comes out =D
I use TVersity media sever seems to be the best one for use with PS3 in my opinion.
