I'm currently shrinking down some of my favorite games. Removing the poo poo files. Relinking some GTA radio stations and so on. Anyhow, I got to Medal of Honor 2 Heroes. I found two files called pad0.pad and pad1.pad. Assuming these are padding files, are they safe to delete without messing up the game? Or are the files used in such a way I should leave them behind?
Together the files are 674mb (:O) so that's why I'm worried.

also, the reason I don't want to test this on my own is because I just switched to GEN and I haven't really learnt all the stuff yet, so I'm having a lot of crashes. (chickHEN)
They are just dummy files.   Don't delete them, but dummy them.

Companies put pad files in umd games, because it will push the data farther to the edge of the umd disc, so the game will load faster.  (The PSP reads the UMD disc from outside to in.)  So obviously these files are completely useless to someone loading the game from memory stick.

Also, you can safley dummy the contents of the sysdir/UPDATE folder    ;)

I didn't know that. I knew they were useless, but not their purpose.

thanks for the info Shizzy. :D
Thanks Shizzy. I need to reward you for helping me and everyone else :D
you don't have to dummy the UPDATE folder, you can safely delete the entire thing
@panda: doesn't really matter, lol. I just click optimize and it dummies the file in a second.
Anyhow, I got the game from being a 1.14GB ISO to a 370mb cso. and I only compressed with level 2 :D

wow... you gatta teach me how to do that, I've got 4 cso's on my psp right now compressed at level 9 and I pretty much use up 2 gigs (which in my mind is pretty good, but one is over 700 mbs so yeah.).
Different data compresses differently.  Some stuff compresses really well, whereas other stuff (ie PNGs, videos, audio) generally don't compress further.
Padding files _should_ compress fairly well.

Well... simply... Remove any padding files. Right click all the files in sysdir/update and dummy them. Then I just dummy all files called anything like "intro.pmf" and so on.

When I compressed GTA I used compression 2 and removed all unnecessary stuff. It lags a TINSY TINY bit when I drive cars REALLY fast. Got it down to 350mb :) (chinatown wars)

Thanks 4 THAT ^.^
