Some of you may remember a thread a few days back asking you all to post your Pingtest.net results. If you don't then here it is
http://endlessparadigm.com/forum/showthr...?tid=19953
In it I said that I'd test a dial up connection. My laptop has a dial-up modem built in (Why? No one uses them anymore) which for the first time ever, and probably also the last time ever, has been useful.
Here are my results:
It wasn't actually as bad as I thought it would be. Yeah it was slow but I could live with it for a few days if I had to. Obviously having multipe tabs loading pages at the same time was a no go as was YouTube but Google, Wikipedia, Facebook lite and my webmail worked surprisingly well.
There wee are. I just thought you all should know...
0.04Mb/s >_>
those were the days
lol, i remember my dial up connection. wee had it for 8 years. in fact, my family only upgraded from dial up in the past 6 months.
The first time I tried to connect it failed because I'd put the phone number wrong. The second time though it connected fine. When I heard that sound it brought back a flood of memories. Taking 20 minutes to load a YouTube video, spending days and days downloading software (legally of course), actually buying CDs and DVDs... (j/k)

Nice upload. In fact, on the subject of upload speed: Why is my upload speed on dial up so much quicker than the download? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

My speed's even worse than dialup for 2/3 of every month... It's pretty much dialup, with 4 other people trying to 'borrow' internet off me. So I usually browse with images disabled.
It's like that right now. Took like 3 minutes to load speedtest.net, and it just froze with the meter on "Preparing to Download" for like 5 minutes now. Give up.
EDIT: tried it 2 more times, can't get past the "Preparing to Download", I'll try again at like 2am when everyone's asleep and there's noone fighting for internet with me.
