This is like the best possible resolution, you got your shit back, and are still friends with him.  Unless you really don't want to be friends with that guy any more, then go for it (make sure if something bad does happen, you can win the fight).

Don't know the guy well enough to make a judgment call but it still sounds fishy that he wanted to reset the settings. either way, at least nothing really bad came out of that, although it may be hard to trust someone who did that again
