what do you need?
8:08pmOless
how do you edit grub.conf?
cause fedora kicked my win7 in the nuts
now it can't boot
8:09pmTony
wait, you installed fedora on a separate partition? its not on a virtual machine, is it?
8:10pmOless
what?
yes
the partition one
8:10pmTony
if so, then grub overwrote your MBR
you have to fix it
ill help
8:12pmTony
so, how did this happen?
can't really help you fix if you don't tell me what happened
8:13pmOless
i just installed fedora for fun
created new partitions, etc.
8:13pmTony
ok
8:13pmOless
then when i went to boot up windows 7 it says bootmgr is missing
8:14pmTony
and when you configured grub, you didnt add windows to the list?
wait
bootmgr is missing?
hmmm
8:14pmOless
i think it's because OS is a different partition
do you have to save after editing grub ?
I'm in nano right now. how do i save my changes?
8:15pmTony
well, i don't think you directed grub to the windows partition
so what you will have to do
is to redirect the grub to
the windows 7 partition
8:16pmOless
i think i should tell it to load the one with OS
instead of the one for files
so for now
8:16pmTony
wait what?
no
your wrong
you don't make any sense. did you set up multiple partitions for one windows installation?
8:17pmOless
which one is it?
8:17pmTony
idk. it varies based upon your partition configuration
8:17pmOless
i saw 3 partitions
one called OS
8:18pmTony
lol
8:18pmOless
one called Recovery
and one called Dell Utility
8:18pmTony
direct it to the large 7 partiton
itll probably be in either NTFS or FAT format
direct it to the main 7 partiton
why use fedora anyway?
slackware for the win!
and it uses LILO, which will be a lot easier to configure
IMO
8:18pmOless
which one is the small other one?
8:19pmTony
i don't know what the names are
as far as i know, you shouold have
(sda,0), (sda,1), and (sda,2).
that's what i have
i can't tell what is wrote to which
i didnt write them
ok
i think i have a fix though
8:21pmOless
yep
8:21pmTony
what partition is the windows 7 partition
8:21pmOless
and i think i just fudgeed something else up
8:21pmTony
jesus, your a nubcake
8:21pmOless
nevermind
be right back
8:22pmTony
wha...?
8:23pmOless
flawless victory
flawless victory
i did it
i changed the partition to the main one instead of recovery or some spoon
hd0,2
and it works flawlessly
8:24pmTony
that's what i was telling you to do!!
8:24pmOless
that's what i'd been trying to do
8:24pmTony
8:24pmOless
while u were telling me about the partition i looked up the command to open nano
8:25pmTony
well, im glad you got it done
8:25pmOless
yeah
8:25pmTony
but why fedora?
8:25pmOless
cool name
