So I just reinstalled Windows 7 and I fire up XviD4PSP. However, its nice to find out that it won't start the encoding. I've tired so many versions and messed with the compatibility options and it still won't work. This isn't anything new because before, everything worked fine. I was wondering if anyone had any alternatives that they would like to share that is like XviD4PSP. It can be for either Windows or Linux. (I'm installing Ubuntu later on)

Thanks for the help
Codecs installed?  Avisynth installed?

Try verifying the above two by using the preview feature before encoding.

XviD4PSP has issues with 7. I had major problems with it, but I don't use it anymore now so I wouldn't know.

Make sure AviSynth is uninstalled as well as any old XviD4PSP files and download the latest UNOFFICIAL FULL (NOT LITE) Build from the Forums - the Official Builds have problems. (I believe the latest Full has missing files).

If you continue having problems, IM or PM squee666 - I know hes got it running fine.

Works fine. I have AviSynth 2.8 and CCCP installed.

I tried that as well and it doesn't work. Same getting hung on the Encoder screen without it doing anything.
There are multiple possibilities... Note that I never used XviD4PSP before (tried installing on VM before, that's about it), so I'm simply guessing...

1.   I'm pretty sure it sources stuff through DSS (99% of avisynth based encoding frontends do). Now Windows 7 uses it's own built in decoders, EVEN if you install a codec pack. Problem is, DSS is not completely compatible with these Microsoft decoders, so you can possibly end up with gay DSS errors. There is a way to fix it however, by editing the registry. Fortunately, nowadays, you don't have to do that by hand.  » http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_prefe...weaker.htm

2.  x264 had some major changes during the latest month or two, so any old unupdated command line generator will most likely generate an invalid command line. So if you updated x264, expect it to fail. That's one reason why you shouldn't use outdated GUIs.

3.  Simply not compatible with Windows 7? Try XP compatibility mode.

PSP conversions?

My custom encoding script ftw lol.

Try megui if you really need a GUI.  However, I do warn you it does have some learning curve.

For starters, XviD4PSP does NOT use AviSynth 2.8 as far as I know - so you haven't done what I said.

CCCP will work fine, but make sure you UNINSTALL AVISYNTH and install the following package:
http://winnydows.com/downloads/XviD4PSP/...icial).exe

Now, make sure you install every componant in the installation. This should make it work.

I experienced Encode problems before and I wouldn't be surprised if its sending incorrect flags to x264.

In fact, a clean MeGUI installation with Auto-Update will not work because it sends flags too new for the version of x264 it uses - which is stupid, really.

If Encoder keeps dying, go to where x264.exe is and rename it - and try a newer build to see if it works.

Good Lucky!

MeGUI for encoding. I don't watch anime on my PSP anymore though, I watch my DVDs and DLs on my laptop. ^^

Doesn't exist, 2.6alpha is the newest. He probably meant 2.5.8, otherwise he downloaded a virus.

The main guy who owns the update servers went afk for like 2 months (quit the internet?), so all the update servers are effectively down (they're up, but not getting the latest updates).

However, megui is actually still being worked on. To actually receive said updates, go to Tools » Settings » Extra Config » Configure Servers...

Remove every single entry and add this to it.

That's the server of the other dev guy who's still working on it.

Renaming the x264 exe won't do jack...

Ah, ok.

megui gives me gay crashes when encoding with x264, and also does weird stuff with audio normalization (fixed now I think) so I mostly encode via command line these days. That's normal encoding. For PSP I use my script.

I meant back up the old version by that >_>

While wee're on it, x264 won't accept AVS files I give to it.

Just says its a file format it doesn't support (DIB )?

I read about it needs to be a YV12 colorspace - but it most certainly is so do you have any idea how to fix this one? (Not that it matters since the newest x264 works with MeGUI - but I would like to know for future reference).

Your AVS is most likely broken.  Run it in a media player to see the error message.

I knew you were gonna say that haha.

No it works fine - MPC renders frames happily - and MeGUI encodes it just fine too.
