I'd write my own, but I have read this
So I realize that at the moment I don't have the skills to do anything...
but some day, when I do have the skills, I swear I will try my best to build my own os exactly how I want it...
it has been a dream of mine for a while...
Quote:I was shocked to find a LOT of projects. Literally hundreds. I was thinking I should stop right then. Certainly, out of those hundreds of projects, someone was already doing what I was thinking about, and there was no point in duplicating the effort. I looked further and was surprised to see that all of them, except for a couple known to OSNews readers, were stuck at dream stage" or "bootloader stage". Most of the time, the creator was gone or idle, replaced by another set of equally inactive people. Sometimes the sites were flat out unmaintained for a couple of years already. Online ghost ships.
Stuck in dream stage meant someone decided to create an operating system that would run Windows, Linux and MacOS applications all under one architecture, created a site, and explained how this is really a good idea that nobody has done before. Nobody had seen the opportunity. Then, the person realized how complex the dream was while being pointless, and left without a forwarding address.
So I realize that at the moment I don't have the skills to do anything...

If you're running Vista or 7, and UAC is enabled, disable it, pisses me off no end too.

UAC is off... but I kind of just want a new os...
not one that is simpler...
one that is complex....
powerful and complex

powerful and complex

blah. you're asking for something that doesn't exist because you're much too contradictive.
What you are asking for is Linux, and frankly, even though I use Windows today, theres a part of me that misses using it - for the reasons you mention in your first post.
And its probably been about 2 years since I used it as my main OS and its come along way. It has more eye-candy than any other OS. It has much more advanced Win32 emulation, its become the only OS you can crack right from the glossy KDE4 right into Console ffs.
If you want a Complex, Powerful, Expert OS - you want Linux. Theres no argument against it. Now stop whining and do something about it.

can't run cool mainstream poo poo...
all linux can do run is 3rd party rip offs of stuff that is already pro
I want to be able to play windows games without some crappy program that runs over the kernel...
ideally wee would also have linux and mac os support for programs those os run too...
but mainly I just want to be able to run legit spoon and have a nice looking os with a lot of power
that is always questioning me like a pussy

LINUX!!!!!!!!!
you can't be able to run all the stuff that windows can run, and not have to deal with the windows drawbacks.

I'm probably a n00blet but i found linux to be more of a pain in the donkey with installing stuff than anything ever was, also not being able to run office natively on the platform sucks as well >_>
and i never found a theme that really blows me away like win7 or mac; and numerous 3rd party apps are always written for windows

Hi
Same reasons as real life I guess. A lot of modern OP systems are a pile of poo. I work with computers for a living yet I still prefer the older OP systems, as do many.
Modern OP systems have too many Big Brother type features, so a hacker like Neo, would naturally want one less likely to be monitored, but that's just a movie.
Back to real life, with modern OPs you might as well hang a naked, full size poster of yourself outside your front door.

The issue with older OSes though, is that various newer methodologies aren't necessarily employed.
The spyware threat is certainly true in Windows, though perhaps less so with open source systems.
