Sorry if it's the wrong section, but I have a simple question. Is the PSN ID for PS3 and PSP the same?
Yup. Sign up for a PSN account through the PSP, recover it on PS3, or vice versa, and use the account on both at the same time if you want. Download history, account information, all that good stuff will always be linked between the two, like so:

So... I can make an account on the PSP and when I get a PS3, I just log in and... bang?
Yup. Right after you make a user account to log onto the PS3, you go under network, choose sign-up for the PlayStation Notwork, then "use an existing account". After you put in the one you made on your PSP, you go through the process of making a PSN Username, Display avatar, etc, and you're done.
