NOOO!
they reverse engineered the firmware themselves, Dax even acknowledged that.
they were good spoon, IMO, the only team that really could compete with DAX.

some idiots managed to hack wildc*rd's forum and 'borrowed' their work.
they had to release the source before the idiots did.
wildc*rd had really good stuff, like in-xmb recovery (looked much better than GEN :P)
hope team wildc*rd will come back (freeplay is still around)

There have been plenty of real custom firmwares released through the years. I believe every one of the are based off DaRk_ALeX's work. But they where real none the less...
- SE/OE/M33 - DAX
- HarleyG's cfw 0.2 - HarleyG
- LE cfw - Team Wildc*rd
- MHU cfw - Xenogears/Becus25
- GEN cfw - PSPGen (Genyus)
- 5.03 TDP-3 - TodoPSP Team
- 3.73 HX - HellDashX
- Custom Firmware 1.62 IE-D - Becus25
- Firmware 1.53 - eiffel56
- DDWRT-PSP - Ahmen (Ir Shell Author)
LOL. I guess you would have to have been in the scene since the beginning to remember that DAX actually did a SE series of cfw, before he changed it to OE, then eventually M33.
If anyone is wondering what the tags on DAX's cfw meant:
1) SE = Special Edition
2) OE = Open Edition
3) M33 = Midnight: 33 (He finished the first official release build at 12:33 AM)
I would like to also note that Booster deserves a mention in this list, because for the longest time, everyone used his DevHook to emulate firmwares.
Back around the PSP launch, I actually was using HarleyG's 0.2 cfw for a long time. It was based off DA's 1.50 POC. But it was a great cfw. It even allowed you to dual boot custom firmwares. Also, it should be noted that HarleyG was the one who created the very first recovery menu system. He later worked with DAX on the SE cfw series, where his recovery menu became famous. (M33 and GEN base their recovery systems on it till this day) And if you want proof that HarleyG coded the first recovery menu - Google 1.50 POC source code, and look through the source code and read the commenting at the top of the recovery.c file ;)
So there is your PSP history lesson for the day folks
I don't know - sometimes I just feel compelled to share all this information I have floating around in my head. :P
