I won't be stocking the pantry like this anymore :(  Its just getting too expensive after taxes :(

Quote:A new state tax law takes effect tomorrow that defines the differences between "food," candy, and soft drinks and evaluates an appropriate tax for each.

But it seems a bit off.

Candy that's prepared with flour -- Kit Kat, Whoppers, even ice cream -- is considered "food" and will be taxed at 1 percent.

Candy that isn't prepared with floor -- Blow Pops, Tootsie Rolls, Lemondrops -- is considered "candy" and will betaxed at 6.25 percent.

All other candy will be taxed at the "general merchandise" rate: 6.25 percent.

The listed shelf price will likely remain the same.

source of corruption

this is just fuct...not that I buy alot of candy, but c'mon...a kit kat bar is candy, but because its baked with flour its not taxed?
Lawmakers are fuct
And what's with the typos...are wee to believe some candy is prepared with FLOOR???
have you not heard? 90% of a 3 musketeers bar is floor tiles.
Man, I loved your candy contribution!! no more candy = so sad me :S:S

maybe it's prepared on the floor, they can't afford counter tops. So tax increase to purchase  counters?
mmmm candy.
My cat found these left over candies on the floor

I might share... ;)
damn that is fuct. what's the point? theyre just trying to tax us on everything in an attempt to make up for their corrupt spending. f***king idiots, and were the ones that end up paying, like how i can buy a pack of cigarettes by my house before i get on the train for school for $4.48, but once the train arrives in chicago, its $9.50... they just tax anything enjoyable because they waste their money padding their pockets and buying big houses and fancy cars and chocolate like that.

don't forget the parking they have to pay for.

There was a 60 minutes episode about parking in chicago..some jerks pay as much as $8000 yes EIGHT THOUSAND dollars a month for reserved parking from 9am-5pm monday through friday in covered parking!!

Corruption is fuct and its only hurting the regular people. :(

QFT
Tobacco and alcohol seem to be the tax targets here.  Somewhat clever in that addicts are rather price insensitive and the government can claim it's for the good of society.
I'm guessing candy has a similar reasoning (but then, I hear that the US does have some obesity issue in general?).

Wow at the parking cost though.
