So I went out today and bough one of these: A
Sony NWZ-S639F
So far so good. It's pretty much the same as the last Walkman I had. (An NWZ-A818) I have however noticed a few differences. It has a much nicer screen with far better contrast. It's a lot louder and sounds a little nicer as well. It's lighter and it has an FM radio too. The biggest new feature though is the SenseMe channels.
Basically what happens it the player will analyze all the songs in the music library and assign each one to 1 of 11 channels (I can't remember what they are but I will post them when it's finished analyzing.) It creates an on-the-go play list based on the mood of the song. It's been analyzing for around 30 minutes now and it's done 400 of my 2040 songs. From what I've read it usually gets the mood right with a few mistakes, which can't be manually corrected. It had better be worth it...
I'll post results back when it's done.
My friend has one and he loves it :P
Ok, it's finished analyzin and I must say I'm dissapointed... Who puts Korn and SOAD in the "Relaxed" and "Classical" channel? It seems more of a selling point than an actual useful feature. Other than this though I must say that I quite like it. I do need to get used to the Back button and Hold switch being in a different place though... I keep pressing on the casing where my mind thinks the back button should be, wondering why nothing is happening...
Something else, it works seamlessly with Ubuntu. With my last one there was no real way to get it to work properly. It worked well enough but it was annoying. This though works without a hitch!
depends what SOAD, certain songs could actually be slotted into relaxing, and i personally relax to SOAD, or heavy metal, so i can't really complain there
But i see where your coming from
Ah yes, I've just got one of these, well my dad has, but anyway they're great. Easy little things to use, seriously lightweight, and the quality is very very good.
Can't beat a well made Sony Walkman IMO.
Heh, the PSP is my MP3 player. Not the best thing in the world for listening to music, but whatever, it works, and I can't be stuffed carrying around more than 1 device (since I carry the PSP around anyway).
I have a SE w760 which has all the functions of this musical thingy, plus it's a phone so it's a win win situation in my case. A friend of mine had one almost identical to this one though only that it was smaller, might be the cheaper version?
mmmm that looks nice..
ive been meaning to get a non-ipod mp3 player for sometime now..
this looks good :D
cool, i got also walkman NWZ-E438F(B) and they have same design, lol
but yeah i like how this walkman produce nicer sounds, but i think it my walkman lacks the features of bass sound enhancement technology, does the walkman above have that enhancement?

So that's the difference between them. I saw the two next to each other in the shop but I couldn't work out the difference between them. I just thought they were the same player but of a different capacity.
By "bass sound enhancement" do you mean the EQ? As far as I know all the Walkman MP3 players have a pretty similar EQ setup. 5 bands and a bass boost. I usually don't bother with all these sound enhancements. IMO they're only there to make cheap headphones sound more expensive.

I used my PSP as an MP3 player while I was waiting to get a new one. Like you say it does the job but it's not entirely suited to that purpose. The visualisers are nice though...
