MS possibly killing off Silverlight: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/will...tter/11180
Also, Adobe killing off Flash mobile: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/exclusi...tml5/19226
I guess Apple has its way with HTML5 now. Just need an actual standard...

HTML5 just makes more sense as a standard that a secondary proprietary format embedded. And its not just apple pushing HTML5, quite a few big names are rooting for it ^^

Hope there's an open platform for this stuff. On the other hand, I kinda liked FlashBlock to let me block out the more browser intensive stuff.

True to a degree, but once it becomes standard, it won't need further software to implement it, just an up to date web browser and a machine capable of processing the media generated in the case of embedded videos and the like
I expect, though you can't say for sure until its finalised, there will be similar functionality developed for HTML5

I tried to make a game from microsoft's website for silverlight once... it was impossible

windows phone 7 uses silverlight to develop games, the PC version is almost completely unused outside of microsoft.com

I think Netflix was the biggest use (outside MS) of Silverlight.
