There's been lots of news pics and messages around big gaming sites about a new xbox with HDMI output and a new DVD drive, and 120GB storage. Now this Xbox 360 turned out to be black. It's still speculation, but I beleive them because I can't remember rumors about game consoles with this much publicity, that could easily be true, that didn't come true. There's plenty of evidence.
Pics:
Specs:
- 1080p HDMI output
- New BenQ-Liteon-Philips DVD drive: "Compared to the Toshiba-Samsung and the Hitachi-LG drives, the reader reported that the BenQ one runs quietly and seems to load a bit faster and smoother."
- 120GB Harddrive
- 65nm Processor
- New Scaler chip (improves video quality on full-spec HDTVs)
Microsoft has denied this, meaning it may take a while for this upgraded X360 to be released. As you can see on one of the pics, the manufacturing date on the sticker says 14-09-2005. This could be evidence that this is in fact not what I think it is, but u never know. Some people say this console is a devkit, but the sticker on the back does not match the stickers on a black x360 devkit, also the devkit's a/v cable connector is shiny and this one is not. Also, devkits have the bulky thing on the harddrive port, and this console does not. Also, it says 'Xbox 360 Console' , nothing like ;Xbox 360 Development Kit'. The small square sticker below the larger sticker says something like 'Reviewer Kit', which does not mean this black xbox won't be released. Instead, it may mean that the new updated version may be sent to reviewers soon so they can review the upgrades.
There is also a rumor that the new improved X360 has been demonstrated to some store's staff. This for one is pretty good evidence that it is coming, but could also explain the 'Reviewer Kit' sticker.
Earlier, there were pics and video's of the new HDMI port in the back of an X360 system, so there's no doubt that there WILL be an xbox 360 with HDMI support, probably this year. But there isn't a HDMI port on the black 360 in the picture, which could mean its 2 different things. Or maybe they managed to put HDMI support in the original X360 A/V connector and you only need a Xbox 360 HDMI cable. Which would rule.
In the video you can clearly see the used X360 is a prototype, so there is a possibility that the HDMI port can be combined into the A/V connector by now.
Also the Zephyr is supposed to have a new processor, no changes you will notice except it's 65nm. This means less power consumption. This means less heat. This means less need for fans. This means fans are (even) more quiet. Wheee!! Next thing you know, the PSU is built in to the console :P
One problem though, if the original x360 was codenamed Xenon, and this 'rumored' one is codenamed Zephyr, then where is the Y? Or what's the link? Oh well I don't really care.
