Soooo, I'm sitting at home watching Smallville, when all of a sudden, mah long forgotten Wii starts shining a blue light at me, demanding mah immediate attention.  I turn it on and saw that there is a new firmware update available, 4.0, that boasts running games from the sd card, easier transfers and free candy from the Wii drive, among other things.

I still haven't hacked mine yet, the only thing I have on it is the Wad installer and uninstaller (two separate programs, that's how long its been since I messed with it) and some VC games, no homebrew channel, no emulators, nada.  What's the bad to installing this firmware?  What do I lose if I accept Nintendo's offer of free candy?

On a related note, because I'm too lazy to research or start another thread, what should I get for mah Wii?  I asked over at nes-hacks, got some good advice, just wondering what the Void uses.  Its just that I pay absolutely no attention to mah Wii, I'm wondering what I'm missing.
How did you get wad installer on a unhacked Wii?  you have a chip I guess or?

4.0 blocks the Twilight Hack, blocks the homebrew channel from being installed. If you have the homebrew channel installed and cIOS Rev8 then update to 4.0 the HBC will still be there and work and WiiGator's BackUpLoader will still be able to work after a good amount of tweaking.  I don't really think its wroth it, IF I where you I would stay or get on 3.2.  If it the recommended firmware for the hacks that get released, and the safest firmware.

Hack your Wii.  Before you won't be able to. Ill be more then glad to help you, I have help many users here hack Wii

:P

that's looks good but i don't know,im safe now.i guess ill do a little more research before i make the leap.

thanks very much for posting
Thanks Shizzy, I saw that over at Ned's site, looks promising, might do the trick.  Does it still install the candy dispenser?

And I may hit ya up on the offer Yoyo, I'm still rather noobish with the Wii.  I got the wad installer and uninstaller on via twilight, friend of mine has Zelda, I just borrowed it and installed the wads needed.

I'm still moving into my new apartment, so I don't even have my Wii hooked up right now.

I'm not sure what the candy dispenser is, but if it is a firmware feature, then I would guess yes.

Waninkoko is a highly respected dev, so I trust him.
Think of this as sort of a 4.0 M33 cfw for Wii.  (In the respect of full firmware features, as well as homebrew, and ISO support)  ;)

When I get my Wii hooked up, I will install and post back.   :)

While you go up, mickey goes down to 3.2
Why not install HBC?

You can still use homebrew channel, and everything else you know & love plus enjoy the perks of the latest ofw with this.  ;)

By the way, for those that don't know - the new ofw allows SD cards bigger than 2GB !
That alone warrants using this...

The reason im downgrading is cause mplayer_ce doesn't get 2.0 usb speeds with 3.4 and higher
So mickey, did downgrading fix your usb2 problems>?
