i like torrents more, just cause i don't have to leave a window up the whole time even if it's slower
I use flashget.
The_316_Wolf Wrote:I don't think you can use flashget with Megaupload downloads.

Flashget does download megaupload. i do it every time i go to the library.

Flashget is the best.

I use orbit to download imbedded flash videos and stuff, but everything else, flashget.

The_316_Wolf Wrote:woot flashget For the Win!! yea.. i use crack too lolz... typical asian ^^

ads? the version I'm using doesn't have ads, which is one of the reasons why i swapped to flashget. Some time ago, i used getright, and then got pissed off at the ads and purchase reminders. But even if getright doesn't have ads now, I'll probably still use flashget, it supports more stuff, like downloadong thru the rtsp protocol.

im sorry if this is dumb, but what are examples of these? could you take a screen shot of what a page of http or ftp downloads looks like? and what does a download manager do for you?

i know i need an ftp client to transfer things between a modded xbox and pc, but what are some other applications of all of these?

sorry, i know this is probably rather elementary, but googling http and ftp downloads doesn't give me the best understanding of what you guys are referring to.

BluDevil Wrote:mmzz speaking of mega upload... wee gonna do the prenium acc share thingo??

this would be cool. i'd like to contribute, especially if it was rapidshare and not megaupload. would these sites notice that a single account was being used by a bunch of people and block the account? that would be a shame.

FTP is File Transfer Protocol, you can get an FTP client to connect to an FTP server and transfer files to folders on the server and back, but sometimes its just one file you need to download so using a download manager is better (ill explain below)

HTTP is what your browser is using right now (http://www.endles....), an example of a http download is http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar37b8.exe (click and watch what happens). Note it starts with http and ends with exe, it is a typical internet direct download. Everything you get off megaupload and such are HTTP downloads

But if you are downloading big files like I am, the internet explorer/firefox downloader is really slow and if the download breaks I have to start over again. What a download manager does is mainly 1. Allow you to pause and resume downloads even if they stopped and 2. Connect to the server more than once or get the file from different servers at the same time

So if a file you want is on 3 websites, you can connect to all of these websites 3 times which could give you 9x the speed of what it normally is
Ge64 Wrote:u kent use anything with megaupload downloads

The_316_Wolf Wrote:I don't think you can use flashget with Megaupload downloads.

Yes u can, i do it everyday.

u just need to setup ur download properly. Make sure ur referrer (for flashget, it's under the place u input ur URL) is set to the proper address, which should be:

http://www.megaupload.com/

any other referrer or no referrer will make the download fail, therefore if u just copied the link and shoved it into flashget, it wouldn't work.

then also, under site properties, check the "only create 1 connection for each file from this site" option. this is not important, as the 1st connection will always still work if u don't, but i just find it a bit messy when there are another 20 threads trying to connect every 2 seconds and failing.
cool
Hmm... This is an interesting thread. I'm gonna take something away from this and look at the security side of it. I really didn't see any benefit to direct downloading once I'd gotten into torrents but I can see it certainly has it's merits. :)

P.S. Thanks for the post fix, Mr Torpark's been acting strangely recently.
update on my previous post, i now have DownThemAll! working so i have fast Firefox downloads! yay so now i would recommend it but it tends to only work with non-uploading sites like this, and other randoms, not sites like sendspace, megaupload etc :(
thank you Ge64, very clearly written and i got it now :]

thanks!
Ok, now the real challenge.

Does anyone know how to get flashget to download Gigeshare? I've tried screwing with all the settings, but it doesn't seem to work.

Or suggest a download manager that does download Gigeshare.

EDIT: Dude, fudgein gigeshare is so gay that i can't even download normally with firefox. double you tee eff!?!
