My new computer is easily strong enough... IF the emulator can use all 4 cores. The emulator seems to only be able use 2, and that's not enough :(.
Emulation is more than 10x in inefficiency?
An emulator called PCSX2, by any chance? That emulator was built around using FFX to test it, so it should work perfect on it. Apparently there's a PCSX2 Playground version that may be improved (on the PCSX2 site).
It does work perfectly, just that it can only use 1/2 of my CPU's potential, and thus not powerful enough.
yeah better play it in ps2, lol
Dragonquest series have more memorable stories than any other rpg, beside the FF or Breath of Fire series, and yes im no FF fan if I've not played FFVIII
And yeah old programmers in square should give the new ones a chance to shine, they did that in FFXII (but i don't like so much FFXII i don't know why, maybe the main element lost, the fanfare?)

No way I'm going to buy myself a PS2 just to play FFX. It's not like I'm desperate to play it or anything, otherwise I would've played it way before now.
I could always use my bro's dual core comp. (He can run it perfectly. 2 cores in his comp > 2 cores in mine). Oh yeah, he has a MUCH better GPU too.
IF you can emulate it properly, that'll probably be better than playing on the PS2 anyway, since you then get features exclusive to emulation like state saving and other stuff. And you'd be able to get better quality graphics (native PS2 resolution is like 640x480 or something poo poo like that? Easily beaten), and use GPU features like AA and stuff.
EDIT: Yeah, I should try out the playground version. See if that's any faster. Or one of the new beta versions.
And hence, PC For the win!
yah maybe try it in the emulator, lol
i think you should dl the newest version of PCSX2 with the correct plugins, ive tried to run it in a much lower pc (P42GHZ i think with decent graphics card) and it loads up FFX but runs slow, so I've give up emulating ps2 games in my pc
yeah im finishing FFX's story in my ps2 cause sometimes i hate my psp, lol
MysterySword Wrote:It's not like FFX is the only good RPG/game on PS2. There's FFXII, Star Ocean 3, Dragon Quest, Xenosaga, etc.
Yeah, but there's a decent likelihood I'd be able to emulate those as well.
Maybe if I can get a PS2 for really cheap, otherwise not going to happen. (I'd rather spend the money on buying myself a new GPU).
PS2s are really cheap. You can buy 3-4 PS2 for the price of one decent GPU nowadays... But if you're gonna spend that much, might as well just buy a PS3.
Thinking about it, Core i7 would get absolutely poo poo frames in emulating this stuff, since Core i7 = 8 threads, and Pcsx uses 2 = only effectively uses 1/4 of Core i7s potential, or 1 single core = slow.
EDIT: Not really, the above statements sort of misinterprets how multi-threading works.

Depends on what you classify as "decent". No, I don't plan on getting a gtx295, or anything even close to that price.

No.. I would say that a decent card would be a GTX260 or a HD4870... they are half the price of GTX295 and still give phenomenal performance. However, even with these, you can buy 2 PS2s...
