So the guy remembered that he still had a good amount of stuff he borrowed from the girl, like a light table and whatnot. His plan was this: If she was home, he'd just leave it on the doorstep, ring the doorbell, and leave. If she wasn't home, he'd actually bring it in. Her mom liked him, so he figured he'd say hi, since he didn't want to scrap his relationship with the rest of her family.
He pulls up, and wouldn't you know it, her car isn't in the driveway. She has a big family, so she parks in the driveway. If her car isn't there, it means she isn't home. So he walks up to the door feeling a bit better. He rings the doorbell, and her mom comes to the door. She says hi, then calls the girl's name. She comes out of the office, and says an awkward "Hi." The guy's stomach drops into his shoes. Apparently, she parked in the garage.
So after bringing the light table to her room, the guy is about to leave when the girl stops him. She apologizes for it. All of it. She said she was amazed that I wasn't more angry than I was, because I had every right to be. She didn't know that the picture had that sort of meaning to him, and said she'd take it down. Following a quiet "Thank you" from the guy, there's a tense silence, which is quickly broken by the girl's mom yelling at their cat in the other room, which breaks the silence and gets some laughs from the two of them.
The guy opens the door. He turns and says "See you when I see you" and walks away. Again. And again, he doesn't know where it'll all end up.
