So i live in the great white north (kanada) and i just recently snagged an LG x110 for 430$ CAD (+ taxes of course)
See i don't expect a lot from netbooks at all really but i just want the damn thing to be smooth with windows 7, which frankly it isn't. It was pretty obvious that a good way to speed it up was upgrading its ram, but the problem was that ITS RAM IS SOLDERED ONTO THE DAMN BOARD!!!
this one little nick in the laptop is now making me regret buying it, and so ive been looking at other viable alternatives like this
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6834220441
that is almost the same specs (sans the bluetooth) and it can actually be upgraded. I don't mind the smaller screen, but im really wondering if 2GB of ram will meet my speed needs for windows7
So what do you guys think if theres some viable way of speeding up my current bitch of a netbook. Or if 2GB of ram will run windows 7 smooth. I can deal with a smaller screen and no bluetooth; im just asking will it be worth it (because i won't be able to get the lg again for 430$ unfortunately)
also, the EEE has 5 hours of battery life whilst my netbook has 2 hours
I really need an answer ASAP because i have only tomorrow to return this for the price i bought it for.
Im running windows 7 on 2gb ram, seems fine, can use photoshop perfectly
Q1: Why LG? Why LG? Why LG? They make good refrigerators and TVs and washing machines, but that's it!
Q2: Budget?
Why didn't you consider the MSI Wind? It has recieved a lot of general good reviews. So has the Lenovo S10. Eee PC 1002H should be what you're looking at... it offers upto 4-5 hours of back up, wifi b/g/draft N, blue... ahh.. here:

A1: Lg was the cheapest at the time, and considering it was a CLONE of the msi wind i didn't see any difference
A2: around......500$ (that's why the stuff is cheap, im not going to pay 1000$ for a netbook)
and as i mentioned above, the msi wind goes over my budget (By the way im using canadian currency which is about 81 cents to the US of A)
but god damn........that asus looks so SHEXY!!!!(obviously its going to be expensive, so i won't be able to get >_>)

ll have to chk the prices at your end... but it is one sweet investment. For a netbook anyway.

Those three are what im looking at right now
battery life is VERY important to me, and unfortunately none of these newegg things tell you how LONG it lasts.
by the way, Thanks for the help feinicks!
that is easily rectified by reaing the review of the interested product over at notebookreview.com or some other similar site...
of the 3, I've had hands on with the S10... its pretty good... a typical lenovo.
also check out the HP Mini1000.
Try sticking to Windows XP? An nLite'd XP will run very well on 1GB of RAM.
Windows 7 should be able to run reasonably (not as good as XP though), after disabling a lot of services, so long as you don't use any large apps.

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH SQUEE! this is probably the BEST deals on netbooks ive seen; holy poo poo i can't say how happy that you put that link up
im now looking at the HP mini that's going for 350$; it seems like a VERY fair price + ill have some budget money left over to upgrade it ;)
EDIT: oh poo poo, looks like it has a via processor, i wonder how much that will stunt performance >_>
