I'm currently building a computer (more like putting various odds and ends i have lying around) for someone. I'm using Windows XP Home Edition as the OS as i have a spare, unused license. So i installed XP Home without a hitch until i went to install drivers.

The chipset drivers won't install unless you have SP2 or above. The copy of XP I'm using is pre-service pack so i go off and find the SP3 CD i have somewhere. that took a good 1/2 hour but its quicker than downloading it. so i pop in the CD and it proceeds to extract everything and dump it in a temp folder somewhere. It then tells me it cannot install SP3 unless i have SP1 or above.

So off i go again looking for my SP1 CD for about an hour before giving up and downloading it. well, first i had to find the download. Its  hidden deep within the Microsoft website and once i found it took a good 3/4 of an hour to download.

I'm now hoping that this will work because i canbt be assed to do any more disk/download hunting...
i wonder if youll need to install SP2 as well if that's the case...
I've given up. the service packs are sorted now but i can't be assed to go through the whole 'Activation@ process. Last time i was on the phone for 2 hours.

I'll just stick Ubuntu on it. Sorted. All he wants to do is use it for web browsing...
...Dl a cracked version
that's illegal. you should know that. ;)
