Quote:Square Enix's highly anticipated JRPG won't be released outside of island nation until sometime after April 2010.

Since the first teaser trailer for Final Fantasy XIII was shown back at TGS 08, complete with a promise it would be delivered in 2009, the title has been eagerly anticipated in what was set to be one of the hottest releases of the year. Unfortunately it looks like those outside of Japan will be waiting a bit longer to get their Final Fantasy fix, as the game isn't going to make it to the US and Europe until the second quarter of 2010 at the very earliest. The news emerged as Square Enix, the game's developers, reported their latest set of financial results and delivered projections for the coming year.

Square Enix President Yoichi Wada told Reuters that while the game was on track for a 2009 PS3-exclusive launch in Japan, with international launches for the Xbox 360 and PS3 coming "in the business year from April 2010 or later."

Final Fantasy has been one of the most successful franchises ever to hit the console market. Since its first incarnation on the NES the series has sold upwards of 85 million units worldwide, with numerous spin offs and even a feature length movie adding to its success.

Despite the delay in the launch of Final Fantasy, Square Enix has remained optimistic about its financial outlook for 2009 with a small dip in operating profit of 2.4 percent to 21 billion yen ($236 million) forecast for the year. The company also reported healthy sales for the tail end of 2008 and said "demand has been generally brisk," with key titles such as Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest IV and Final Fantasy VII prequel Crisis Core all hitting shelves throughout the year.

Blame Mircosoft!

Quote:There is word trickling out of a business meeting today by Square Enix, that Final Fantasy XIII will not be hitting our shores till mid 2010. This is definitely unacceptable coming from a company known for its stellar RPG franchise. Square Enix is to blame for this mishap, but the blame also falls squarely on Microsoft.

Square Enix has mentioned in the past that the PS3 version was practically finished and going through the final touch-ups for release in Japan this year. So, why is it that the US and Europe will be getting the game one year later? Square Enix execs have made it crystal clear that the game will not hit our shores until the porting/development has finished for the Xbox 360.

In a recent meeting, Square Enix revealed that the earliest US and Europe would see Final Fantasy XIII would be in April of 2010. Originally, the execs at Square Enix hinted that the game would arrive in 2009 for the US territory. However, this all changed after last E3, where the studio heads revealed that a deal has been struck just before the conference with Microsoft, for a simultaneous release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

When I first heard that there was going to be a delay due to the decision to port over Final Fantasy XIII to the Xbox 360, I was okay with getting a late 2009 release in time for the holidays. However, now Square Enix is telling me I won’t be getting my grubby hands on it till mid 2010 (at the earliest), which is pretty disappointing.

I really don’t care where I play Final Fantasy XIII. It could be on my Xbox 360 or PS3 as long as they are of equal quality. However, what really bothers me is that I have to wait longer because Microsoft got too greedy.

Why couldn’t the finished version just get released first and tack on some extras onto the later version? The reason is because that wasn’t part of the deal when Microsoft dropped millions into Square Enix’s lap.

Square Enix is equally to blame for this blatant disregard for the fan’s patience considering that wee have been waiting for this game since 2006. I love my Xbox 360 and I have played it to death many times (literally), but I am no tool.

Folks, “it is what it is” and there is no need to sugar coat it, Microsoft messed up. The company put their greed over us, the general consumers and purposely cockblocked the release of Final Fantasy XIII.  Sigh. My rant is over, time to get back to playing Gears of War 2 Horde mode.

I'm importing this, then getting the english one when it finally comes out

later i get replyed:
Shuyu of neoseeker Wrote:The best part is, it's not Microsoft's fault. Anyone who thinks it is their fault is an idiot.

It's to do with the financial year entirely. To make the figures more appealing, they wait until the new financial year to release the game and to give greater benefit to the shareholders.

Even if the game was still exclusive, it's growing increasingly unlikely for a localisation to have been ready before April next year anyway.

well they think they can make more money if they make the rest of us wait... maybe I'll forget all about 13 all together and do what tetris is doing, boycott!
A(lmost) whole year?

Wow...

Not something I'm desperately looking forward to so I'm not really annoyed.
come on it makes sense for microsoft to do that from a business point of view.
the chances are wee were gonna see a PS3 + FFXIII bundle, so if microsoft allowed a PS3 version to be released before the 360 version then there would be a boost in PS3 sales (come on, would you rather wait a year to buy a game on 1 console or just buy a new console wich is better and already has the game released on it? and the fact that FFXIII is already available on the PS3 might convince someone to buy a PS3 rather than a 360..). so why the hell would microsoft allow sony to boost their PS3 sales, and suffer a decrease in 360 sales? at the end of the day microsoft is a company, it doesn't give a damn about you, all it cares is that it makes money..

im not too fussed about FF so it doesn't really matter to me.

wow i think thats my first ever rant on ep even tho its not a rant lol
well that's money wars, microsoft vs sony, and square-enix is in the neutral grounds
