Battery died but I was pleasantly surprised when it came out perfectly exposed

I got the canon wired remote, there is a specific one for rebel models (like mine) and one for the xxD and xD models.
Go to manual mode (M)(can only be done here) and set the shutter speed to the longest setting (right after 30") it is called BULB
As long as you hold the shutter button down it will leave the shutter open taking the picture. I use the wired remote to make sure I don't shake the camera.
