The features in GEN outweigh those in M33. Well, yeah. Most developers just reverse DAX's work and use it themselves. I mean, it could take a very long time to recode a Custom firmware with all the complexities in the Sony firmware.

Also, GEN has added a substantial amount of work into this, even if some of it is other plugins, It's a great release. VSH Recovery For the win!

apart from game categories and quick recovery menu, what other features are there in GEN that you mention?

I can see there is also pandora option in advanced recovery, but since I never use that.. its kinda useless to me,  but Im still trying to see what these extra features are that makes this CFW worth using compared to m33
Its M33 with a fancy dress on....
i like that there is at least some choice in firmware now, but a completely original firmware by GEN would be a real contender to dark alex. its just seemed since about 2.71 hen that everyones given up trying to build one up from the ground and used the OE code and now the m33 code.

dark alex is keeping it alive at least with a healthy flow of firmwares.
GEN should get a medal for trying to bring more new features into the game. i guess if DA keeps releasing solid firmwares its good to have people like this adding features to it, but branding it GEN is over the top, its more of an m33 add-on until its built from the ground up. i know its hard to do, but maybe someone will come along and blow everyone away one day.

until then, im with dark alex all the way
OK, the only thing holding me back from updating now is theme development.

Would I have to keep downgrading to 5.00 M33-4 to create themes ??
Sorry for the double post...  But:

I've now installed this.  And was surprised on the installation screen to see a message telling me future GEN firmwares will only play .ISO/.CSO dumps on the PSP it was dumped from.  :(

Cool firmware.  I really was impressed with all the new features.
But that seals the deal for me.   I'll think I'll just stick with M33...

EDIT:  I would also like to note that I wasn't able to delete a PSX game that was in a "CAT_" folder, from the XMB on GEN cfw.  It would say error, and rename the folder it was in some thing crazy like "error_5378952359"...  Weird bug I guess.  And with GENS upcoming block on ISO files dumped from other peoples PSP units, I'm not going to stick around for an update...

Pretty sure that will only be an option during install..like now you can install with homebrew only.

I'm not sure about that Schmilk...
It says upon install that they are trusting their users with this release, but future releases will have strong a anti-piracy stance.

I guess wee will see.
If GEN doesn't block illegitimate ISO use, and DAX doesn't match/beat GENS features in future releases, then I may end back up on GEN cfw.

GEN does indeed have some really interesting/useful features.

Is it really worth going through the steps upgrading from m33 5-4?  I just want to play mah games.

Is that even possible to check if a game was dumped from your PSP or not? Isn't a dump, a dump?

If that does happen, I won't be around either. GEN Firmware and it's features is nice but not that nice.
