Have a Q6600 I'm gonna recycle, was planning on updating mah system, figured why let it go to waste.  What mo-bo would work for a mac style machine?  Gonna throw in 2gb ddr2, mebby 4, see how much ca$h I have, recycle a 250gb drive.  Also need recommendations for the graphics card, I heard an Nvidia 7300 would be a good baseline to work with.  And also would like a mac-like case.

Just so ya know, this is gonna be nothing but a toy, I don't want a powerful vid card or anything like that.  I figure I can throw this together for about $3-400 bucks, play with it for a bit, then sell it on ebay or craigslist for $600-1000, this is gonna be the equivalent of a $1700 system, I think, 2.6 gig processor, 2-4gb ram, right?  Even if I just break even, I'll still have a damn good mac fer a bit to play with.  This is purely for the experience.
i think you should get a intel chipset mobo, maybe a p35 should do the job just fine
yeah its fun... I tried hackintosh-ing  with 3 different versions, but no ball... the culprit turned out to be my motherboard. It was faulty to the point that it screwed my processor (though lack of proper cooling + overclocking added to it) and one 250 GB hdd. Its IDE slot would read only one device... plus a lot more..

my new gigagyte mobo is fun. It easily installed Kalyway's Leopard 10.5. Though for Intel chips, another more reliable and stable method is available.

Yes intel, AMD is possible but it will be more difficult. I've tried. Emptyone

You have to use the AMD patch that is available in Kalyway's 10.5... the default one is bound to fail. sadly, for AMD, you can't just click "next"...

It worked on mine, but I reformated my disk.. waiting for a 1TB to be delivered, then this disk I can use for all sort of OS experimentation...
Yeah, I'm hearing good things about the Gigabyte boards.  Unfortunately, I'm way less geeky than I sound, most of what I know comes from a great deal of research.  I'm sure Joe, Zingy or Spartan could just rattle stats off the top of their head.

lol... no one is a born "geek".. all that the above mentioned and others know is also from research and overall interest in such things...

If I am correct, Joe and Spartan are from -Hacks?
A-yup, I may toss the question to the -hacks community as well, I still have a couple of months until this is a reality, just like to find someone who has done this before.
lol... you'll find many of them!
