I know it is still an emulator but it's almost like the real thing...
Quote:I only don't want emulate FF8 because its pretty amazing playing the game without a broken battle transition!
I could download the PC version but I've heard bad things about the PC versions.
There's a bug in FF8, but it's not that hard to get a patch.
Other than that, there probably isn't much difference. And the PC version has the chocobo world minigame (separate from FF8) which you can just leave running in the background all day (it can auto pilot) and get you rare items which you can retrieve in FF8. Hey, easy effortless non-cheating way to get free items.
Now I just need well... actually find it, wish me luck.
EDIT: I found it. Well that was easy!
Ok got it installed without any issues. Anyone want to link up to the patch for me since I'm a lazy asshole?
EDIT: Got it anyway. File Planet is horrible but I got it at least!
EDIT2: It studders on software rendering and on hardware it shows black squares and FMVs lag. I really miss my PSOne disks now =(
EDIT3: Emulating it now. Bring it on broken battle transition!!!
I used to play it on my 533MHz Celeron with TNT2 Graphics card - ran mostly fine with some lag. Might try running it again to see if I can help (think I still have the PC discs).
EDIT: Works fine on hardware decoding now - FMVs play fine, normal gameplay looks fine - might load my save game to see if other scenes look alright.
Note about the FMVs - the actual .BIK videos are a little laggy, but that wouldn't be the software/computer issue.
I'll try on Software soon.
What's your PC specs? All the latest drivers? DriectX version? Windows version?
EDIT 2: Software works fine here too. I seem to get some random marks in menus with Hardware + some refresh rate overrides, so perhaps try changing some of your graphics card settings?

Wu
t?!?
I can run that fine (eveything works perfectly, no studders or whatever) on my old 666Mhz laptop with an old ATI rage graphics card.... And I also ran it fine a few days ago (to produce those screenshots) on my core2duo laptop (with mobility radeon x1700).
What is your computer's specs? What OS?
Windows XP
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU
Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
Graphics card is GeForce 8500 GT

FMVs run fine for me. There's a tiny bit of startup where the CD needs to start spinning to access the data, otherwise no lag whatsoever.

Heh, better than mine.
I've run it fine on all 3 of the computers I've tried it on, all with varying age and power. Don't know why it doesn't work for you.

Edited post above - if you've got some overrides in your Forceware setup, try disabling them. Software rendering shouldn't lag - works fine on like a 600MHz. Do you have Fraps? If so, check the framerate of what you're getting. If it's pretty steady around a round number, you may have VSynch or a refresh rate cap somewhere.
(damn, ATi's Catalyst isn't as configurable as nVidia's Forceware)
