So my PS3 finally showed up today. I'm getting it all set up. Only problem is that I can't upgrade the HDD right now, because the screws are ridiculously tight on there. Maybe I'll get some canned air and leak some of the freon on the screws to flash-freeze em. It worked on my laptop when I was upgrading the RAM, so it'll probably work here.
Anyway, I bought it used off eBay, but you wouldn't guess it by looking at the PS3 itself. It's pristine and beautiful, not a single scratch or scuff.
All I need now is to finish all the updates, which should take another 20 minutes or so, then I'll be online and ready to go
I also decided against getting a TV for myself, instead I'm pitching in some money so my parents can get a 40" HDTV for our basement, which is going to become our ultimate media/hangout area in the next month or so

nice! playing the ps3 on a big donkey HD TV is worth the money. Personally i don't have any games consoles (well, i have a psp but it just sits on my desk getting very dusty) but I've played a friends ps3 on a chocolatety 15" CRT tv and on a 42" HD LCD TV with surround sound. hell does it make a difference.
I'd say your next objective after the TV is to get a decent sound system, even if its just an old hifi hooked up to the audio-out on the TV. If you're going to go for the hifi route then get a decent quality amp with at least 40 watts on tap and a good pair of 2 or 3-way speakers. My setup on my TV in my room is an old JVC (at least 20 years old. DR-E2L) and a set of Sony 50 watt 2-way bookshelf speakers.

TV + speakers. TV is a chocolatety 15" CRT. Picture's OK but its just too small. Am currently developing a way to use an old 19" LCD computer monitor as a tv (think SCART>VGA):

I normally have a different set of speakers (Acoustic Solutions AV-20) but my dad's currently using those because his beautiful, 40-year-old AKAI speakers have started to rot. the cones have gone mouldy and the voice coils have started to corrode meaning they sound awful.
anyway, my current set up sounds pretty damn good, a lot better than what most TV's internal speakers sound.
congrats on your ps3. Also, be careful with those screws as they are very prone to getting stripped. Just be as gentle as possible.
