The new motherboards that Xbox 360 fans have been waiting for since August have finally been spotted in the wild. Could this mean the end of the Red Ring of Death?

Xbox-Scene reports that some readers now have Xbox 360 games consoles with long-awaited Jasper motherboards. These should run cooler and should mean the end of the Red Ring of Death, which featured on a recent Guardian Technology cover.

The Jasper board has the new 65-nanometer version of the ATI graphics chip, which ran hotter than Xbox motherboards could sustain, over the long term. This should run cooler and it also costs less to produce.

It's not easy to tell which machines have the new board. However, they have 150W power supplies with a different plug, whereas Falcon boards have 175W power supplies. Maybe someone will figure out the numbering scheme so it will be possible to tell from the box.

Jasper boards also have 256 megabytes of Flash memory to store the new avatar-based (Wii-style) user interface, with space to spare. Earlier models had only 16MB of Flash.

Bought my 360 two weeks ago. Apparently it still has a 175W power adapter, so no Jasper for me. Oh well.
Hmm... I have yet to receive RROD with my xbox but it does freak out and the screen gets shaky and unsyncs at times

guess I will have to wait if I want one of these
I haven't got a 360 yet, but this sounds good.
Brilliant timing, im planning to buy one in the January Sales
i don't know.

i don't think it'll be that easy. i hope for the xbox's RRoD reputation it is, but i do sincerely doubt it.
meh, i don't  play games. I do however have a friend who's on his 6th 360. technically he's still on his 5th as he built the 6th one out of the other dead ones. He's replaced the cooling on the CPU and GPU so it runs a little cooler. This one's been going now for about 6 months and it doesn't look like giving up any time soon
How did he build a xbox :O
took the good bits of the 5 dead ones, put them together. voila! he added a few personal touches as well. (cold cathodes, led's, extra cooling etc...)
